New Bern Crossings:

Affordable Housing with Supportive Services

In 2024, Harmony Housing Affordable Development (HHAD) broke ground on New Bern Crossings, a 192-unit affordable housing community in Wake County for households earning below 60% of Area Median Income. The community includes a mix of affordable units, including homes designed for residents with greater stability needs. At a time when Wake County faces a 65,000-unit affordable housing gap, developments like New Bern Crossings are not just needed, they are urgent.

Recognizing that housing stability requires more than bricks and mortar, HHAD invited Families Together to serve as the exclusive onsite Support Services Coordinator, embedding services directly into the community from day one.

Beginning in February 2026, Families Together provides residents with practical, prevention-focused workshops, such as fire safety, landlord-tenant rights, and life skills, followed by ongoing supports including GED classes, financial literacy, credit repair, youth enrichment, and community-building activities. A dedicated onsite community center serves as the hub for these services and is accessible to families connected to nearby Families Together programs. In addition, Families Together staff members are providing light-touch case management with residents with permanent supportive housing (PSH) vouchers.

Strategically located along the future New Bern Avenue Bus Rapid Transit line, New Bern Crossings connects families to transportation, employment, education, and opportunity, which helps transform affordable housing into a true platform for long-term stability. With completion slated for Fall 2025, Families Together is proud to be a foundational partner in this community-centered, forward-looking project.
