Our Emergency Housing Assistance in Response to COVID-19

At a time when home means more than ever, Families Together responded to the COVID-19 emergency with increased housing and other basic needs assistance for the most vulnerable in our community – families with children experiencing homelessness.

More than half of families in our program lost their jobs or had their hours cut due to the crisis. All have children and while schools were closed many were too young to be left home alone while parents worked.

In response, we our team provided families in our program urgently needed support for their health and safety to ensure they get housed and stay housed. Our activities have included:

  • Making wellness calls regularly to each family and determining who needs additional help due to job loss, illness, etc.

  • Providing emergency rental and utilities assistance for an extended period

  • Providing basic needs support to those laid off by COVID-19

  • Moving high-risk families in our program from shelters to motels

  • Providing Internet access and devices for children while schools are closed

  • Providing transportation assistance for critical needs

  • Providing help getting unemployment benefits
